Habeas Corpus. To have a body; a legal term referring to the need to present a person for judgment; purported to protect the innocent.
Overview. Identity of the individual in contemporary society is defined by external proofs of existence. In other words, we live in a society where even if I can touch you, your flesh, you don't exist if you don't have your paperwork. This body of art is about the struggle and physicality with things we consider to be real, or the stuff we would take with us after our passing, if we could.

Crown of Thorns 2002 "Turning
tools upon tools, Kim Abeles welds together her late grandfather’s
now vintage hand tools into a Crown of Thorns. A vivid Christian
image of suffering, humility, and redemption, it also suggests immortality
(the devil finds idle hands) in an endless ring of motion and energy."
